Rude Boy

In Music, Rihanna on 02/28/2010 at 6:07 am

…At first when I listened to Rihanna’s new song Rude Boy I really didn’t think I liked it because the video was kind of ‘trippy’ and the song was extremely repetitive (but I mean, I guess most of her songs are), but after a few more listens I’ve started to really like the song.

Crawford v. Winslet

In Celebrities, Film, Joan Crawford, Kate Winslet on 02/28/2010 at 5:41 am

So it seems HBO has grabbed Warner Bros. classic film Mildred Pierce starring one of my favorite actresses, Joan Crawford, to turn it into a miniseries and are replacing Crawford with Kate Winslet. This will probably be one of the few remakes that will ever occur that I will approve of. I’m really sick of cheap remakes that collect audiences based purely on seeing their beloved classic remastered and modernized. Winslet seems to be a woman of style and wouldn’t have taken a role if it wasn’t worth while as most of her films have been great successes in the past few years.

A film that is rumored to being remade soon is Gone with the Wind, which possibly will be starring Rachel McAdams and Hugh Jackman. I don’t know how the hell Hollywood is going to make Jackman and McAdams better than film legends Vivienne Leigh and Clark Gable…but it’s definitely a failure I would pay to see.

Winter Storm

In Weather on 02/27/2010 at 4:28 pm

There’s probably almost four feet of snow outside my house right now, ALMOST FOUR FEET! My family had left for Baltimore of Tuesday and so I was left home with little to no knowledge of this random storm. Apparently almost one million people lost electricity, thankfully, we didn’t. My friend Amanda came over on Wednesday night thinking she would be able to go home in the morning after our evening of cosmopolitans  and watching sex & the city, but she ended up staying at my house until Friday late afternoon, which was when my mile long driveway finally got plowed! Anyways, cabin fever is at its height this afternoon, I NEED TO GET OUT OF MY HOUSE.

The Death of Natasha Richardson

In Celebrities on 02/23/2010 at 4:00 pm

It’s hard to believe Natasha Richardson died almost a year ago this coming March. I remember I was in ‘Writing Essay about Literature,’ when my friend, Jett, told me of her accidentthat later resulted in her death. I think the only movie I ever saw her in was Parent Trap featuring the little non-slut Lohan in the ’90’s, which, I thought, she played wonderfully. Here are a few pictures from the funeral I found on the internet of Natasha’s funeral in memory of her passing one year later. Unfortunately, in 2009, the world lost a lot of talented people in the entertainment business, hopefully it won’t be a reoccurring theme this year.

The All American Family

In Photography, The Haggerty's on 02/22/2010 at 7:02 pm

This past summer I lived at my Grandparent’s house in Cooperstown, New York. Since the economy was so bad last summer finding work was difficult (I had three jobs that were all extremely part-time), which left me with a lot of free time to do family research as well as make a digital archive of family photographs and video. Here’s some of what I collected!

A blog and a picture

Here’s a picture I took of my friend Colin our sophomore year at Bennington College. It was part of a series I did titled ‘American Stereotypes,’ which you can see on my flickr by clicking here.

Also, here’s an interesting blog I found last night called ‘Cakehead Loves Evil.

Men’s Fashion Advice from Details Magazine for Summer 2010 Pt. III

In fashion on 02/21/2010 at 9:24 pm

We have come a long way from the Caesar haircut,  (you know, the one where guys gelled their hair spiked the front? Maybe even got frosted tips? Well, if not you, I know the look all to well…) the current trend upwards! Guys are trimming the sides of their head while allowing the top to grow ‘skyward’ as Details puts it calling it ‘the postmodern.’

This hairstyle for men is not one that should look ‘tidy,’ the sides are supposed to be cropped to about half an inch while the top is no more than four inches. I’ve had a hairstyle similar to this one for about a year and have found it suits me well because I have a ’rounder’ face, which now looks semi-elongated since my hair isn’t laying flat on my head.

Men’s Fashion Advice from Details Magazine for Summer 2010 Pt. II

The men’s necklace necklace is making a come back this summer with interesting details on how to choose the right length, pendant, and when it’s time to trim your chest hair… which was an unexpected component to the article.

It’s suggested the necklace be either bronze or silver, which high-end designers are making bank on as preferred objects for the necklaces are object usually found in your junk drawer. The prices range from (according to those listed by Details) $80 necklace to Gucci’s $1,385 necklace…

The object on the necklace is supposed to hang five inches directly below the Adam’s apple, which is an averaged length of 22 inches.

‘The rule of thumb’ for chest hair when wearing necklaces is that it’s time to trim if the hair on your chest is thick above you second undone button. To get rid of your chest hair don’t wax it, don’t put Nair on… please, or closely shave it as you’re supposed to ‘trim the forest, not raze it’.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am eagerly awaiting WARM WEATHER. Surprisingly, this Upstate New York winter hasn’t been completely unbearable as temperatures haven’t gotten below 10 degrees very often… which is a good sign that it won’t the rest of the year. ANYWAYS when I saw that Details Magazine had an issue discussing Summer 2010 fashion for men I ran right to the store and bought it in spite winter taking too long to end.

Details suggest this summer’s shorts will ‘end above the knee’ and are suggested to pair with either loafers or lace-ups without socks. WITHOUT socks is highly emphasized in this article… as it goes on a tangent about it for awhile. The article goes on to say if socks are a must they should be ankle socks because ‘it’s a bad look going through airport security’ says New York designer Michael Bastian.
