A Rumored Remake

… when I found this out, I got really upset, Sunset Boulevard? Why touch that??? Gloria Swanson and William Holden (and of course, who could forget Erich Von Stroheim) are probably the only people to look and play the parts. Swanson as the reclusive silent film star, Norma Desmond, is definitely a performance to remember. Swanson was nominated for a Oscar in the 1951 Academy Awards, but lost to Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday (however, I don’t think she would have won even if she was not up against Holliday, because both Bette Davis and Anne Baxter were nominated for their roles in All About Eve).

Anyways, this new supposed Sunset Boulevard is to be released this year starring Liza Minnelli… so I guess if you’re going to replace a Hollywood legend you should do them the favor by re-casting them with another big star, right? Too bad that didn’t happen for Faye Dunaway as the remake for Bonnie and Clyde is featuring D-list Disney star, Hillary Duff. Yes, remakes are an unfortunate cash cow (along with the dreaded ‘sequel’) Hollywood just loves to make old films shiny, modern, and characterized by a voice of today, thankfully, we always have the original.
