Auntie Mame

In Film, Rosalind Russell on 03/22/2010 at 3:00 pm

The best movie I’ve watched this month, by far, was Auntie Mame, featuring The Women’s Rosalind Russell. Russell portrays a very eccentric and flamboyant Aunt who raises her late brother’s 12 year old son (how he never became gay… it’s beyond me). The film is ranked #97 in AFI’s top 100 laughs (interesting fact, none of those 100 films were made in the 2000’s, click here for the list), was nominated for several Academy Awards in 1959, and was  1958’s biggest box office hit as it raked in almost $9 million (who would have though 50 years later films would be making $2 billion). I highly recommend this comedy as it’s very funny, memorable, and sweet film, one I will definitely be purchasing come Thursday when I get paid!
