You’re a vile, sorry little bitch!

In Bette Davis, Film, Joan Crawford on 03/17/2010 at 9:00 am

Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (c. 1964) was intended to be Bette Davis and Joan Crawford’s second film together, unfortunately, the harsh rivalry between the two great stars led to Crawford ending her part who was replaced by Gone with the Wind’s Olivia de Havilland. During the short time Crawford worked on this film, Davis ordered that Coca-Cola be the only soft drink available on set… now if you know anything about Joan Crawford, you know that her last husband, Alfred Steele, was CEO of Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola’s biggest rival. Steeled had died in 1959, which, five years later, Crawford wasn’t entirely over, this threw Crawford over the edge and she returned to California where she stayed in a hospital for months until Director Robert Aldrich replaced her with de Havilland. Above is a photograph I found for sale on eBay, a very rare shot as most of these photographs including Crawford were destroyed after she was released from the film. I do wish Crawford had been able to continue with this movie (she supposedly cried for 39 hours straight when she found out about being replaced over the radio), but I most certainly do not wish the interesting rivalry between Crawford and Davis never existed, I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t love a good cat fight?

Crawford v. Winslet

In Celebrities, Film, Joan Crawford, Kate Winslet on 02/28/2010 at 5:41 am

So it seems HBO has grabbed Warner Bros. classic film Mildred Pierce starring one of my favorite actresses, Joan Crawford, to turn it into a miniseries and are replacing Crawford with Kate Winslet. This will probably be one of the few remakes that will ever occur that I will approve of. I’m really sick of cheap remakes that collect audiences based purely on seeing their beloved classic remastered and modernized. Winslet seems to be a woman of style and wouldn’t have taken a role if it wasn’t worth while as most of her films have been great successes in the past few years.

A film that is rumored to being remade soon is Gone with the Wind, which possibly will be starring Rachel McAdams and Hugh Jackman. I don’t know how the hell Hollywood is going to make Jackman and McAdams better than film legends Vivienne Leigh and Clark Gable…but it’s definitely a failure I would pay to see.
