Men’s Necklaces

In fashion on 03/09/2010 at 6:11 pm

About a month ago I wrote a piece of how men’s necklaces are in this summer (according to Details Magazine). Today I have been looking at my prospective summer wear and came across their accessories section where I have found they’ve almost double their prices and varieties of necklaces. The necklaces range from $24 to $78…. I know, $78 for a necklace? As opposed to last years collection, Urban Outfitters was selling, what I called, junk drawer on a chain, but is now selling what seems to be the masculine version of charm bracelets. Urban Outfitters is selling necklaces with mustaches, roller skates, puzzle pieces, and so on.

Men’s Fashion Advice from Details Magazine for Summer 2010 Pt. III

We have come a long way from the Caesar haircut,  (you know, the one where guys gelled their hair spiked the front? Maybe even got frosted tips? Well, if not you, I know the look all to well…) the current trend upwards! Guys are trimming the sides of their head while allowing the top to grow ‘skyward’ as Details puts it calling it ‘the postmodern.’

THE HAIR

This hairstyle for men is not one that should look ‘tidy,’ the sides are supposed to be cropped to about half an inch while the top is no more than four inches. I’ve had a hairstyle similar to this one for about a year and have found it suits me well because I have a ’rounder’ face, which now looks semi-elongated since my hair isn’t laying flat on my head.

The men’s necklace necklace is making a come back this summer with interesting details on how to choose the right length, pendant, and when it’s time to trim your chest hair… which was an unexpected component to the article.

THE NECKLACE

It’s suggested the necklace be either bronze or silver, which high-end designers are making bank on as preferred objects for the necklaces are object usually found in your junk drawer. The prices range from (according to those listed by Details) $80 necklace to Gucci’s $1,385 necklace…

The object on the necklace is supposed to hang five inches directly below the Adam’s apple, which is an averaged length of 22 inches.

‘The rule of thumb’ for chest hair when wearing necklaces is that it’s time to trim if the hair on your chest is thick above you second undone button. To get rid of your chest hair don’t wax it, don’t put Nair on… please, or closely shave it as you’re supposed to ‘trim the forest, not raze it’.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am eagerly awaiting WARM WEATHER. Surprisingly, this Upstate New York winter hasn’t been completely unbearable as temperatures haven’t gotten below 10 degrees very often… which is a good sign that it won’t the rest of the year. ANYWAYS when I saw that Details Magazine had an issue discussing Summer 2010 fashion for men I ran right to the store and bought it in spite winter taking too long to end.

SHORTS

Details suggest this summer’s shorts will ‘end above the knee’ and are suggested to pair with either loafers or lace-ups without socks. WITHOUT socks is highly emphasized in this article… as it goes on a tangent about it for awhile. The article goes on to say if socks are a must they should be ankle socks because ‘it’s a bad look going through airport security’ says New York designer Michael Bastian.
